House, Rashi, graha and house lord are four different things
Learn the sentence pattern that prevents most beginner interpretation errors.
A house is an area of life in the interpretive model; a Rashi is a zodiac sign occupying that house; a graha may or may not be placed there; and the house lord is the planetary ruler of the Rashi occupying that house. These four labels answer different questions.
A reliable reading sentence is: “House X contains Rashi Y, ruled by planet Z; Z is placed in House A; the house also contains planets B/C and receives aspects from D.” That sentence is structural and can be checked before interpretation begins.
House lordship changes with Lagna because the Rashis move through the fixed houses. The 7th house is always the 7th house by position, but its Rashi and therefore its lord change with the Ascendant.
For Taurus Lagna, House 7 contains Scorpio (Rashi 8), so Mars is the 7th lord. In the teaching chart Mars is placed in House 10, Aquarius. Therefore the structural statement is “7th lord Mars is in the 10th house.”
Do not shorten that into a prediction. First add Mars’s dignity, conjunctions, aspects, D9 condition and timing context. The structural sentence is the beginning of analysis, not the final result.
Read every house in this order
How to read it
- Identify the house by fixed chart position.
- Read the Rashi number in that house.
- Convert that Rashi to its planetary lord.
- Find where that lord is placed.
- List occupants and incoming aspects.
- Only then begin synthesis.

“The 7th house is Scorpio” is not universally true. It is true only for Taurus Lagna in whole-sign houses.
