MODULE 10 · LESSON 10.7

From signs to houses

Keep the Ashtakavarga arithmetic sign-based, then map each sign to a house from the Ascendant.

The contribution tables operate on signs counted from each contributor’s natal sign.

For chart reading, the resulting sign can also be labelled by its whole-sign house from the Ascendant. If Taurus rises, Taurus is house 1, Gemini house 2, and so on.

Changing the Ascendant sign changes the Lagna contribution and also changes the house labels attached to the SAV signs.

Ashtakavarga is a point-distribution system. The fixed BAV checksum belongs to the rule system; the useful chart-specific information is how those points distribute across the twelve signs.

Read the audit grid before reading the total. Each bindu comes from a contributor and a counted position, so the learner should be able to reproduce why a cell is 0 or 1. SAV is then the sign-wise sum of the seven planetary BAV rows.

STEP BY STEP

How to read it

  1. Choose the target BAV planet.
  2. Choose one sign column.
  3. Audit all eight contributor decisions.
  4. Verify the planet’s fixed row checksum.
  5. Use SAV/BAV as context, not as a standalone event prediction.
REMEMBER

Key points

  • BAV row totals are fixed checksums.
  • Distribution across signs is chart-specific.
  • SAV = sum of seven planetary BAV rows, not a separate mysterious score.
⚠ Common mistake

Do not call a high raw SAV number a guaranteed positive event without the rest of the transit/natal context.

DO IT YOURSELF

Apply this lesson to a chart

  1. Open Ashtakavarga Lab.
  2. Choose one planet and one sign.
  3. Explain at least two contributor bindu decisions from the audit table.
