MODULE 4 · LESSON 4.9

Conjunction versus degree closeness

Keep same-sign conjunction, exact separation and sign-boundary closeness as separate facts.

The course labels two planets conjunct when they occupy the same sidereal sign/whole-sign house. That is a categorical geometry rule used consistently by the labs.

Exact angular separation is a second fact. Two planets can be in the same sign yet nearly 25° apart, so “conjunct” does not mean “close by degree.”

The reverse can also occur across a sign boundary: one planet at 29° of one sign and another at 1° of the next sign are only about 2° apart, but they are not same-sign conjunct under this course definition.

Degree separation becomes important in specific techniques such as combustion profiles and degree-based Drik Bala. Those techniques should not silently redefine the course’s same-sign conjunction flag.

When writing an interpretation, state both facts when relevant: “same-sign conjunction; separation X°.” This keeps geometry auditable and prevents hidden orb assumptions.

STEP BY STEP

How to read it

  1. Check same-sign status.
  2. Calculate exact angular separation.
  3. Record both facts separately.
  4. Apply technique-specific orb only where that technique explicitly defines one.
  5. Do not invent a universal conjunction orb.
REMEMBER

Key points

  • Same-sign conjunction is categorical in this course.
  • Degree separation is continuous and separate.
  • Combustion and Drik Bala have their own explicit degree logic.
WORKED EXAMPLE

Apply it to a chart

Sun 2° Leo + Mercury 27° Leo → same-sign conjunction, 25° separation.

Mars 29° Aries + Jupiter 1° Taurus → about 2° apart, but not same-sign conjunct in this course.

⚠ Common mistake

Do not use one arbitrary orb to overwrite every conjunction, combustion and aspect rule.

DO IT YOURSELF

Apply this lesson to a chart

  1. Find a same-sign planet pair.
  2. Measure their degree separation.
  3. Write one sentence containing both the conjunction flag and the separation.
