Balance at birth
Calculate how much of the birth Mahadasha remains from the Moon’s position inside its nakshatra.
Each nakshatra covers 13°20′. If 40% of the nakshatra remains at birth, 40% of that nakshatra lord’s Mahadasha remains.
Example: if a Moon is in a Venus-ruled nakshatra with 40% remaining, the birth balance is 0.40 × 20 = 8 Vimshottari years.
The exact date boundaries shown by this app use an explicitly disclosed educational convention of 365.2425 days per Vimshottari year.
The Dasha timeline is calculated from the Moon’s Nakshatra position; interpretation begins only after the period lord is brought back into the natal chart. Ask which houses that lord owns, where it sits, and what condition it has.
Do not treat a Mahadasha name as a list of inevitable events. A period is a timing framework in the tradition; natal promise, sub-period lord, Vargas and current transit provide the context for any cautious interpretation.
